Painting and Drawing

I think each kind of art has had its own impact on my personality. Creating things with pressed flowers or feathers, I never know what the outcome is, so I enjoy the fun of thinking while making.  The photos on this page have been taken randomly over the years.

Like learning different languages, knowing a type of art helps you learn a new one, for example, if you know how to draw with a pencil you can extend it to drawing using a soldering iron on wood. I think making artistic things has helped me keep my innovativeness alive, develop delicate hand movements and trust my abilities. Working with real materials is something I highly recommend to people who work with PC all the time, similar to the way it is for an electrical engineer like myself for example.

Fabric Painting

Painting on fabric and leather is interesting for me as painting on each fabric or leather differs from the others and it’s kind of challenging to find out how they respond to your dye.

I paint on the front side of my son’s trousers because I want him to see and enjoy them. We choose photos from Pinterest and I customise them. Taking photos is not easy as my son is not in the mood for taking photos most of the time, I know it’s normal and enjoy capturing him while he plays.

The overcoats I paint are all purchased, and I customise them in my favour. For example, the painting on the rust colour overcoat is inspired by the bag and the bag is handmade by villagers from Kandovan village in East Azerbaijan (northwest of Iran).

Bags and Shoes Painting

The dark blue bag here is a renewed version of the self-made bag under the tab “Bags and Shoes”. The bags I make last for many years and even after that they are still usable but just not new anymore.

Painting on Canvas

This painting on Canvas took me 7 months to finish as I painted each colour anytime I was in the mood for it. As each part is based on my mood, when I wanted to add to a part it was easy to get the same colour but going to the same mood to match the previous one was not easy. I call this painting universe as it contains elements of nature and feelings. Once a professional critic told me to change the moon and star part as it doesn’t match the rest parts, although he was right I preferred not changing it as how I painted the night sky is the way I see it: vast, overwhelming, empty and full of periods and beautiful laws. To be honest, when I do art I don’t have any idea of what I’m up to, but when it finishes I can easily recognise its contact with my inner side.

Trying different styles

Randomly picking a colouring sheet from the Student Union table at Heriot-Watt University was unexpectedly the start of a long-term project of colouring, but I loved the final result. Although I prefer the looseness of brushes, I like the softness of pastels and the vast variation and vibrance of colour pencils. The pastel work was done in 2003.

Drawing

The following photos were taken years ago, around 2007, and the quality is too low, unfortunately.

Painting on what I find paintable!

I paint on anything I find paintable, jars, boxes, I even use henna to paint on the body. That is because the physical feeling of painting with/on different materials is a new lovely experience. Here are a few of those paintings:

About the vase photos, I had the feeling of having the whole nature on my vase. The painting on the incense stick holder shows flames. The combination of flower petals and painting is performed on a wall, it was about 2012 that I tried painting on walls with acrylic and I found it amusing.
