Located in the northeast of Iran, this province has a dry and warm climate. Mashhad is its capital city and due to having Imam Reza’s shrine is a religious destination for Muslims. Close to this city, there are attractions that are not so green but are unique.

Kang is a village close to Mashhad built upon mountains. The interesting thing about the houses in this village is that the roof of one house is the yard of another.

This is Kang village again in autumn, the ground where my son is sitting and playing is the roof of a house.

The purple trees are wild Judas trees on the road from Mashhad to Kang in the middle of April which is after a month of spring in Iran. Although these trees are scattered they are beautiful trees wildly grown out of stone.

Imam Reza Holy Shrine is a significant place for Shia. This place has a nice atmosphere and beautiful professional manmade architecture.

Autumn is plum drying season in Mohsen Abad, a village close to Neyshabur city. You can see that everything is done by hand and in it’s old fashion. I wanted to eat all those golden plums before they dry!

Zoshk is an area close to Mashhad city with a lot of fruit gardens, sometimes separated by short walls similar to the photo here. Before doing it myself, couldn’t believe picking sour cherry in autumn, which was offered by a kind farmer man.

This is Akhangan Rod built in the 9th AH and nowadays it is located beside a road close to Mashhad city. While you drive on Iran roads you can see many of these structures, and every single of them is a piece of art itself, like here you can see delicate tiles on top of the tower.

Miniature Park is located in Mashhad city, it was a good place for little kids to learn about historical structures. You can get a feeling of sizes by comparing the structures with my 3-year-old son’s height 🙂 .
